Prof. Promise Mebine, a distinguished scholar and seasoned academic, currently serves as the Director General of the National Mathematical Centre (NMC) in Abuja. With a career spanning over two decades, Prof. Mebine has made significant contributions to the field of mathematics and its applications, both in Nigeria and internationally. His leadership at the NMC is marked by a commitment to fostering mathematical excellence and innovation.

Born on April 2, 1967, in Foropa, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Prof. Promise Mebine’s early life was characterized by a strong passion for education and a keen interest in mathematics. He completed his secondary education at Community Secondary School, Foropa, before pursuing higher education at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, where he earned a B.Sc. in Pure and Applied Mathematics in 1997.

Prof. Mebine furthered his education with a Master’s degree in Applied Theoretical Physics from the same university in 2002, and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Loughborough University, United Kingdom, in 2006. His academic journey laid a solid foundation for his future contributions to mathematical sciences.

Prof. Mebine’s professional career began as a Graduate Assistant at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, where he quickly rose through the ranks to become a Senior Lecturer. His dedication to teaching and research was evident in his numerous publications and his role as a departmental seminar coordinator.

In 2010, Prof. Mebine joined the Niger Delta University as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics/Computer Science. His research interests include fluid mechanics, environmental fluid modeling, and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flows. He has published extensively in these areas, contributing valuable insights to the scientific community.

Appointed as the Director General of the NMC, Prof. Mebine has brought a wealth of experience and a visionary approach to the institution.
