Nigerians are a very discerning, intuitive and objective set of people not given to emotional or sensational headlines meant to garner support for questionable causes or crusades under whatever guise or pattern. Thus, the ongoing attempt to tar the impeccable image and reputation of the Senate President, Dr Godswill Akpabio has already failed before it even took off as there is no way an issue that is of no discernable importance to the welfare and wellbeing of millions of Nigerians can be elevated beyond what it really is; a storm in a teacup!
No one has been suspended, no one has been sanctioned, no one has been insulted, no one has been accused of financial or moral impropriety, no one has been marched off the chambers! ln fact the National Assembly just crossed a milestone with the presidential assent to the 2025 budget thus paving the way for better times for all Nigerians. So why the hullabaloo from disgruntled elements who ‘no like better thing?
A recent straw poll of avid Nigerians found that the cost-of-living indices and the security of lives and property were the major concerns of a majority of the respondents, and many cared less for an altercation that has long fizzled out in the Red Chamber.
In other words, mischievous and overambitious persons who desire to cash in on the Senator Natasha saga are riding the wrong horse, as Nigerians are not ready to be taken for a ride by self-serving and self-aggrandizing elements under whatever guise or motivation.
The vast majority of right-thinking Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious, sectional or partisan leanings have passed that stage long ago.
They are well aware that even though not perfect, the Senator Godswill Akpabio-led National Assembly means well for the people and has gone to great lengths to deliver on credible campaign promises to the people. Rather than being at loggerheads with the Executive, the 10th National Assembly has crafted and passed numerous progressive legislations, motions and resolutions for the benefit of their teeming constituents.
For the first time in history, every geopolitical zone has a Development Commission e.g. SouthEast, NorthWest, North Central Development Commissions to better tackle the infrastructural, developmental and socio-economic indices of their respective zones and fastrack rapid economic growth and progress.
With the National Assembly under the astute leadership of the Senate President working in lockstep with the Executive to take the country to greater heights, those busybodies and naysayers seeking to take advantage of the Senator Natasha teacup storm are decidedly in for disappointing times as Nigerians have long passed that stage.
The progressive train has left them stranded at the station, and they will remain so if they don’t retrace their errant and obstructive ways. A word is enough for the wise and he who has ears, let him hear.
